Lumberjacks take over first...Andrews scores twice for Colts

Only two points separate the top three teams in the Fred Fox Division after NSJHL play conclude Saturday evening.

The South Shore Lumberjacks find themselves alone in first place after they geeked out a 2-1 win over the Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs in Bridgewater Saturday evening.  Leo MacLean put the Lumberjacks up 1-0 after the opening period and that was all the scoring until the third when Will Cook scored for the home team to take a 2-0 lead before Owen Forsythe tallied for the Bulldogs.  Antigonish kept coming at the Lumberjacks net the entire evening outshooting the South Shore 37-23 but Keegan Greencorn played excellent for the South Shore stopping 36 of the 37 shots he faced.  The Bulldogs played with an empty net for the final 1:32 of the contest in an attempt to tie the game but they failed.  The Lumberjacks now stand at 12-2-0 for 24 points while the Penguins are second with 23 and the Colts who also won Saturday have 22 points.  Antigonish meanwhile stands at 7-6-1 for 15 points and three back of first place Eskasoni in the Sid Rowe Division.

In a wide-open affair in Brookfield Saturday afternoon, the Colts scored three times in the first period and never looked back defeating the Elks 5-1 for their 11th win of the season.  The Colts added their final two goals in the third period.  Liam Andrews scored twice and added an assist for the winners while Cody Garcin also picked up a pair of goals for the now 11-3-0 Colts who outshot the Elks 55-45.  Zachary MacInnis stopped 44 of the 45 shots he faced while the Elks goalie Logan Wallace blocked 50 of the 55 shots he encountered.  The Colts are third, two points behind the South Shore.
 
 
Jr. Miners  6       Pictou    3
 
The Jr. Miners picked up their third win of the season and second over the County Scotians with a 6-3 win in Membertou Saturday evening.  Brady Matheson put the now 3-12-0 Jr. Miners up 1-0 after the first and then Hudson Clarke and Kale MacDonald scored for the Jr. Miners in the second while Drew MacIntyre replied for Pictou.
 
The Jr. Miners added their final three goals in the third as Kale MacDonald scored his second of the game while single markers were added by Kegan Corbett and Landon Clarke who also helped out with a pair of assists.  Blake MacLennan and Chris Jordan scored the second and third goals for the Scotians.  Pictou outshot the winners 30-22.
