Oxen snap six game losing streak...shocking Lumberjacks

The Windsor Oxen snapped their six game losing streak while shocking the South Shore Lumberjacks 6-5 in Bridgewater Remembrance Day afternoon.

The Lumberjacks were out of the gates early and led 3-0 before the game was five minutes old on goals by Kyle MacIntyre, Nolan Wilkie and Owen MacDermid. Before the first period concluded, the Oxen showed they would be no pushovers as they scored twice off the sticks of Kayden Kuryluk and Dylan Manning.

Will Cook put the South Shore back up by a pair in the second before the Oxen finally tied it at 4-4 on goals from Jacob Gerhardt and Wilson Davison.

In the third Will Cook gave the Lumberjacks a 5-4 lead before the Oxen fought right back with goals from Matthew Shields and Wilson Davison’s second goal of the game which proved to be the game winner as the Oxen left the South Shore with a 6-5 win. The Lumberjacks outshot Windsor 43-30.

Huge offensive efforts were put forth by the Lumberjacks Owen MacDermid and Will Cook. Both scored while MacDermid added three assists and Cook 2 assists. Jacob Gerhardt scored once and added 2 assists while Wilson Davison with his 2 goals also added an assist. There were only three minor penalties called the entire 60 minutes.

The Lumberjacks are now 11-2-0 for 22 points while the Oxen improved to 4-6-2 for ten points.

The Oxen will be back in business with a pair of upcoming weekend games. They will play Sackville at home Friday at 7:30 and travel to Eskasoni Sunday afternoon for a game with the Jr. Eagles at 2:00 p.m.

The Lumberjacks meanwhile will host the Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening. A total of nine games are scheduled in the Junior League tis weekend.
