Colts up 1-0 in NSJHL Championship Series....MacKenzie a 4 point night for Colts

Three goals in a span of 1:30 in the third period Saturday night pulled the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles to within a goal, tied the game for the Sid Rowe Division Champions before Cooper Puma scored the game winner for the Capstone Colts only 21 seconds later on the power-play.  Nolan Stevens added a sixth goal for the Colts to provide the Fred Fox Division Champions with a 6-4 win and a 1-0 lead in the opening game of the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Championship series.  The two goals for the Jr. Eagles in that stretch of the third were scored by Arlen Denny and then Marcellus Francis had a short-handed marker to tie the game at 4-4 for 21 seconds.

 
Camden MacKenzie was the star of the night for the defending Nova Scotia Champions as he scored twice and added two assists for the winners.  MacKenzie’s goal was the lone one of the first period and the first of five scored in the third, only 34 seconds after the opening face-off in the final period of regulation on the power-play.  Sam Ryan gave the Colts a 2-0 lead only 48 seconds into the second period before Keegan O’Neill put the Jr. Eagles on the scoreboard.  Connor Macphee made it 3-1 Colts before Matthew Burke made it a 3-2 contest with only 1:33 to play in the middle period, a period in which the Colts outshot the Jr. Eagles 22-9 and led in shots 37-15 after two periods.  For the game the Colts had a 50-25 advantage.
 
Cody Garcin recorded three assists for the Colts.  Darian MacInnis stopped 44 of the 50 shots he faced while Will Cole in the Capstone nets turned away 21 of 25 shots.
 
Game two in this Nova Scotia Junior Hockey Championship Series goes Easter Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the former C.F.B. Shearwater Arena.
