All three opening round playoff series now tied at 1-1

All three opening round playoff series now tied at 1-1

Playoff Hockey can change with a whisker and that is exactly what transpired Saturday night in Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Playoff Action.  The three teams who entered play trailing their Best-of-Five Preliminary Round Series 1-0, all captured victories to tie their series 1-1 and bring each series now down to a Best-of-Three.

The Elks appeared as if they stampeded back to Southern Colchester County Friday night after their 10-2 thumping by the Pens and became ready to lock horns Saturday afternoon against the Penguins.  The Elks recorded their first win of the season over East Hants by a score of 5-3 while outshooting the Penguins 41-37.  The Elks took a 1-0 lead after the first on a power-play effort from Bryson Currie.
 
In the second, Aiden Gloade put the Elks up by two at 2-0 before Connor Stewart brough the Penguins back to within a single goal entering the third.
 
East Hants tied the game at 2-2 in the third thanks to a goal from Nick Morin.  However the Elks were not finished as they received goals from Will Stewart and Cale McClellan’s first of the afternoon to go up 4-2.  Jacob Sanford pulled the Penguins back to within a single goal before McClellan’s empty net goal with 50 seconds remaining secured the Elks a 5-3 win and enable them to tie their series at 1-1.  Noah Comeau added two assists for the Penguins while Stewart of the Elks also recorded two assists to go along with his goal.  McClellan also registered an assist to go along with his pair of goals for the winners.  Elks goalie Logan Wallace turned away 34 of 37 shots in securing the win.
 
The teams return to East Hants for Game 3 Monday night and a fourth game Tuesday night in Brookfield.

The Blazers tied their series at 1-1 with an explosive four-goal second period.  They took a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes on a power-play effort from Will Meek.
 
The Blazers went to town in the second and took a 5-0 lead on goals from Will Meek with his second, Jonah Rivard, Dawson LaPlante and Zachary Jenkins before Aidan MacLeod finally put the Oxen on the board.  Aiden Tucker made it 6-1 Blazers in the third before Matthew Shields scored for Windsor, the final goal of the game as the Oxen fell 6-2 and into a 1-1 tie in their series.  Braeden Shaikh stopped 33 of 35 shots in nets for the Blazers while Sackville had 48 on Graydon Mole.  Game 3 goes tonight in Windsor at 7:30.
 
Jr. Miners    6        Port Hawkesbury   4
 
The Jr. Miners went up 3-0 after the first period before allowing the Strait Pirates to tie the game at 3-3 16 seconds into the third period.  The tying goal was Colin Peryer’s second of the night for Port Hawkesbury while Landon MacIntosh scored the first goal for Port Hawkesbury.  Brady Matheson put the Jr. Miner ahead 4-3 before Carson MacEachern tied it for the Strait again at 4-4 with 8:44 to play in regulation.  Garrett MacIntosh and Landon Clark the secured the  Jr Miners victory and allowed them to tie the series at 1-1.  Port Hawkesbury outshot the Jr. Miners 50-37. Game 3 goes Tuesday night in Port Hawkesbury and Game 4 back in Membertou Friday night.
