Antigonish goes up 2-1

The Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs three goals in the first period carried them to a 4-3 win over the Membertou Jr. Miners in the third game of their Sid Rowe Divisional Final Tuesday night in Antigonish.  With the win, the Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead in their Best-of-Seven series with Game 4 scheduled for Membertou Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.  Game 5 returns to Antigonish Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs Will Normandeau opened Tuesday night’s scoring before the game was even three minutes old but a mere 36 seconds later Jarrett Hicks of the Jr. Miners tied the game at 1-1.  Will Fitzsimmons then scored the first of his two on the evening and Owen Forsythe made it 3-1 Jr. Bulldogs before the first period had concluded.

In the second, Nathaniel Fuller with his first of two on the night pulled the Jr. Miners back to within a goal before Fitzsimmons tallied his second of the game to give Antigonish a 4-2 lead after forty minutes.

Fuller scored his second of the game with 5:14 having elapsed in the third to bring the Jr. Miners back to within one goal once again but that was all the scoring for the game.  Jr. Miners Goalie Lucas Fraser was pulled with 35 seconds to play but Membertou could not come up with the equalizer.  Fraser stopped 40 of 44 shots on the evening while Adam Tkacz stopped 41 of 44 shots.

The Fred Fox Divisional Final continues with Game 3 tonight at Cole Harbour Place beginning at 7:30 with the Colts trailing the South Shore Lumberjacks 2-0.  Game 4 shifts back to Bridgewater Friday night for a 7:30 start.
