Blazers surprise Lumberjacks...Curnew 3 point night

One thing is certain and that is despite team records, one never knows the result of a pending game in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League, no matter what the record is of individual teams.

No better example was in Sackville Monday night when the 9-15-1 Blazers played host to the 19-6-0 South Shore Lumberjacks.  The teams battled to a 2-2 tie after forty minutes but the Lumberjacks who have not given up hope on first place in the Fox Division stumbled severely in the third allowing the Blazers three unanswered goals for a 5-3 Sackville win.

Tyler Curnew who finished the night with three points scored the Blazers 4th and 5th goals in the third with Ethan MacVicar tallying the other third period goal.

Cohen Westlake opened the game’s scoring to give South Shore a 1-0 lead before James Cameron tallied with 1:43 to play in the opening period to tie the game at 1-1.  Dylan Probert put the Blazers up 2-1 with only 4:30 to go in the second before Kyle MacIntyre struck for the Lumberjacks with only 2:55 remaining in the second.

The loss for the South Shore now leaves them only 2 points in front of the East Hants Penguins for 2nd place in the Fox and despite holding a pair of games in hand on the Colts, leave the Lumberjacks 6 points back of the first place Colts.  The Blazers and Lumberjacks have 1 game remaining in their regular season series and it is slated for this Saturday Feb 7th in Bridgewater at 7:00 p.m.  The Lumberjacks are 3-1-0 in the season series while having outscored the Blazers 17-13.
